CRASHED INTO A CRIMINAL RECORD

Ever wondered what happens after a car accident, ever wondered what happens to illegal drivers after a car accident… Legally?

For the illegal driver a fine of up to R 1 250.00 could be issued if they are caught, this offense is part of those traffic offences that could be settled with a fine and stay out court, if no accident occurred.

The financial consequences for the owner of the vehicle is only the start, Insurance won’t pay out any claims if the driver of the vehicle was driving the vehicle illegally and the premiums will sky rocket if the insurance company agrees to cover the owner in the future, and the owner could stare a civil case in the face.

The driver of a vehicle that was part of a motor vehicle accident could face criminal charges, whether they have a license or not, but the chances for an illegal driver to be charged with reckless and negligent driving is way higher.

You’d think that would be that, but there is more.

If you are the owner of the vehicle and you borrow or allow someone to drive your vehicle without a licence or illegally and they are involved in a motor vehicle accident, as the owner it is not only irresponsible, reckless and negligent, but you could face not only civil but criminal charges as well.

So before allowing a friend, family member or someone you trust to take you vehicle without a license or illegally, think about the consequences not only for their sake or your own, but for the sake of other drivers and pedestrians on the road, as it’s your responsibility as the owner of the vehicle to make sure your actions and decisions are in the best interest for everybody around you.
